ASTM A269 TP304 Tube
The 304 grade page: seam route, fitting-controlled connection, surface condition and cleanliness.
ASTM A269 family
A269 is the product specification families are usually quoted under, and it is frequently treated as though it selected the material. It does not. This page sets out what the family settles, what it leaves to the order, and where to go once the grade is decided.
A269 is a product specification, not an assembly pressure rating, a hygienic certification or approval for every corrosive fluid.
Family scope
A buyer arrives at A269 from one of three directions, and each one needs a different next step before an offer can be compared.
| Situation | What it means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| General-service austenitic tubing | A269 is a product specification for austenitic stainless tube in general service. | Use it as the material basis, then state every order-level decision separately. |
| A named grade such as TP304 or TP316L | The grade is a separate specification dimension within the family. | Name the exact grade and edition — the family name does not select one. |
| A pressure or code application | An assembly rating and a code designation are not established by the product standard. | Resolve the design basis with the responsible design authority first. |

Settled and open
One decision is made by citing the standard. Four are not, and they are the four that most often differ between competing offers.
| Decision | Detail | What to add to the order |
|---|---|---|
| What the family settles | That the tube is ordered as austenitic stainless under this product specification. | The product standard citation and the ordered edition. |
| What it leaves open: grade | The family spans multiple austenitic grades with different composition requirements. | The exact grade, stated beside the standard rather than inside it. |
| What it leaves open: route | Seamless and welded austenitic tubing both sit inside the family scope. | Explicit permission for the seamless or welded route. |
| What it leaves open: finish | Appearance descriptions are not measured surface or cleanliness limits. | The treatment, the measured parameter and the cleaning requirement. |
No figures here. This page publishes no chemical limit, mechanical property, dimension table, roughness value or pressure rating. Each one comes from the edition the contract invokes, the fitting manufacturer’s guidance or your own service specification.
Grade pages
Once the service assessment has fixed the austenitic grade, these pages carry the order-level decisions: seam route, connection envelope, surface condition and cleaning.

Adjacent decisions

Resolve the dimensional acceptance basis and the measurement method.
State a measurable surface requirement instead of relying on finish names.
Coordinate the tube callout with adjacent components without assuming cross-form equivalence.
GCC markets
The product standard cited at enquiry has to survive the quotation, the packing list and the receiving check. Country flags identify the destination; quotation must confirm the supply route, origin and availability.
Keep stainless grade identity and cleaned-end protection intact through destination receiving. Identify the emirate, fabricator or site address and unloading restrictions; distinguish a domestic handover from an import leg.
Keep stainless grade identity and cleaned-end protection intact through destination receiving. Name the consignee, importer and final site; ask who confirms product classification and border documentation before dispatch.
Keep stainless grade identity and cleaned-end protection intact through destination receiving. State the nominated receiving point and project document approver; align certificate review with the required arrival window.
Keep stainless grade identity and cleaned-end protection intact through destination receiving. Specify the actual port, border point or inland site requested; separate the entry leg from onward transport and unloading.
Keep stainless grade identity and cleaned-end protection intact through destination receiving. Identify the contractor or fabrication yard receiving the tubes; agree import-document responsibility and the named delivery place.
Keep stainless grade identity and cleaned-end protection intact through destination receiving. Confirm whether the order is for local consumption or onward shipment; name the consignee and agree who handles each transport leg.
Enquiry handoff
Citing the standard is the first line of a complete tube requirement, not the whole of it. State the grade, the permitted seam route, the dimensions with their tolerance basis, the surface condition and the connection interface.
Open the steel-tubes RFQ and enter the resolved item: product standard and edition, grade, route, OD, wall, length, quantity with its unit, the controlling tolerance, the cleaning requirement and the destination. Add your name, company and reply email on that form. Supporting drawings can be shared through the destination’s verified contact process.
Opening the RFQ does not submit anything. A submission is complete only when the receiving form returns a genuine acknowledgement.
