Tube routes matched to service and tolerance
Seamless, welded, ERW, mechanical and precision tube each suit a different kind of service. Choose the route that matches pressure, tolerance and cost — availability is confirmed against your specification, not from a standing catalogue.

The right route for pressure, tolerance and cost
Seamless for pressure, welded for economy, precision for a close-tolerance bore.

Grades, Standards, Sizes & Tolerances
Decision-ready tables for tube selection
Steel tube is specified by outside diameter, wall thickness, grade and governing standard. Reference the tables below, then confirm your exact requirement against the standard before ordering.
Grade & standard reference

|---|---|---|
| ASTM A519 | 1020 / 1026 / 4130 | Seamless carbon & alloy mechanical tube |
| ASTM A513 | Type 5 DOM | Electric-welded drawn-over-mandrel tube |
| ASTM A179 | Low-carbon steel | Seamless cold-drawn heat-exchanger & condenser tube |
| ASTM A213 | T2 / T11 / T22 | Seamless ferritic & austenitic boiler tube |
| EN 10305-1 | E235 / E355 | Cold-drawn seamless precision steel tube |
| ASTM A500 | Gr. B / C | Cold-formed welded structural tubing |
Common outside-diameter & wall reference
| Outside diameter | Wall range | Typical use |
|---|---|---|

Procurement Insight
Why tube mass climbs with OD — and wall does the heavy lifting
A single verified calculation that anchors tube selection, so an industrial buyer can sanity-check any quoted section before committing.
The relationship
For round tube of outside diameter D and wall t (both in mm), the mass per metre is m = 0.02466 × t × (D − t) kg/m. Even a small change in wall thickness moves the mass significantly because the wall multiplies the full (D − t) term.
50.8 × 3.05 mm
≈ 3.58 kg/m
50.8 × 6.35 mm
≈ 6.96 kg/m
50.8 × 8.74 mm
≈ 9.06 kg/m
Source: carbon steel density 7.85 g/cm³, standard mass-per-metre formula for round tube (m = 0.02466 × t × (D − t) for carbon). The commercial department re-verifies the governing standard and the MTC before quoting. Last reviewed 30 August 2026.
The buyer takeaway
State OD and wall — a bare diameter is not enough to quote.
Two tubes of the same outside diameter can carry very different mass per metre depending on wall thickness. Naming both pins the section down and keeps the quotation accurate against the MTC.

Frequently Asked Questions
Steel tubes, answered
The questions procurement teams, machine shops and process engineers ask most, answered plainly.
What steel tubes can Noor Deira Steel supply?
Seamless, welded, ERW, mechanical (DOM) and precision steel tubes in carbon, stainless and galvanized material. Availability is confirmed against your specification, not from a standing catalogue.
What is the difference between a tube and a pipe?
Tubes are specified by outside diameter and wall thickness with tighter dimensional tolerance, and are typically used for mechanical, structural and instrumentation service. Pipes are specified by nominal bore and schedule, and are used to convey fluids. The distinction is specification intent, not just size.
How do I choose between seamless and welded tube?
Seamless is preferred for pressure, elevated-temperature and critical service where a uniform wall and no weld seam are required. Welded (including ERW and DOM) is economical for structural and mechanical work. Confirm the service pressure, temperature and code, then select the route.
What is DOM tube and when should I specify it?
Drawn-over-mandrel (DOM) tube is electric-welded tube that is cold-drawn over a mandrel to refine the inside diameter, wall concentricity and surface finish. It suits mechanical parts and hydraulic cylinders that need a close-tolerance bore.
Which grades and standards govern steel tube?
Common references include ASTM A519 (seamless mechanical), A513 (welded/DOM), A179 (heat-exchanger), A213 (boiler) and EN 10305 (precision). The grade (such as 1020 or 4130) defines chemistry and mechanical minimums under its governing standard. Specify both.
What information do I need to request a steel tube quotation?
Tube type and material, grade, standard, outside diameter, wall thickness, quantity, documents, application, destination and Incoterm. The Specification Builder collects these fields and hands them to our commercial department.
Does Noor Deira Steel supply steel tube across the GCC?
Yes — Noor Deira Steel coordinates steel tube supply to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, with Incoterms, bundling and destination documents agreed per order. Lead time is confirmed at quotation stage.
