QA flagQatar — Market Route

Iron Ore Supplier in Qatarwhere the evidence has to beat the cargo

Iron ore does not sit in a Qatari yard waiting to be inspected. It arrives already bought, so the assay window, the basis each figure is stated on and the submittal the receiving operation will run have to be settled while the cargo is still a quotation — not after it discharges.

No stock, price, clearance or Qatari local-presence claim is made anywhere on this page.

Import evidence sequence

Four gates a Qatar consignment passes before it is a quotation

A consignment into Qatar is not a single approval — it is a chain, and each link rests on the one before it. Read them in order, because a link further down cannot repair a weak one above.

  1. 01

    Origin and consignment identity

Which deposit, which mine, which lot?

Origin is not paperwork filed at the end — it is an input to classification, to origin documentation and to whether the buyer's own end-use approval covers the material at all. A consignment without a named origin cannot be qualified, only priced.

Evidence it needs: Named origin, mine or deposit, and a lot or shipment reference that the documents will carry.

  2. 02

    Chemistry on a stated basis

What is in it, and how was that determined?

Each controlled figure has to be paired with the basis it sits on. An iron figure without the analytical method behind it, or a moisture figure that does not say whether the tonne is weighed wet or dry, cannot be compared between two offers — the numbers will look close while describing different material.

Evidence it needs: Fe and each gangue and deleterious element as separate figures, with the determination method and its edition.

  3. 03

The submittal the works will run

What does it ask for, and who signs it?

Where a receiving operation screens incoming material, the submittal sits between the enquiry and the order. The documents that screen rests on — the analysis certificate, the sampling standard it was produced under, any route-specific test — are worth identifying while the enquiry is still open rather than after the cargo is booked.

Evidence it needs: The document list the submittal requires, the issuer it accepts, and the sampling boundary it recognises.

  4. 04

The customs action on the importer

Who files, and against which classification?

Duty treatment follows the exact commodity description, the origin and the rules in force at the time, and it changes. That is a live check against the current official tariff by the importer or their licensed broker — it is not a figure a supplier can state, and it is not something this page states either.

Evidence it needs: The importer or consignee holding the import registration, the clearing agent filing the declaration, and a classification confirmed against the current tariff.

Qatar iron ore evidence gate

Find the first link that is still open

Fill what you already know. The gate reports the earliest group that is still incomplete rather than a score, because a gap in the chain above makes everything below it provisional. No limit, tolerance or default is supplied by this tool.

Group A — Origin & consignment identity

Deposit, mine or country, stated by the buyer.

The reference the documents will carry.

Lump, fines, pellets, concentrate or DSO.

Group B — Chemistry & sizing, with the basis

The iron content the buyer requires.

The analytical standard, and its edition.

SiO2 and Al2O3 stated separately.

P and S as their own figures.

The accepted value.

Whether the tonne is weighed wet or dry.

The required band.

The sieve series or standard behind it.

The standard governing how the lot is sampled.

Group C — Qatar destination & submittal

Named precisely.

The rule and the place it refers to.

Certificate of analysis, origin, invoice, packing list.

What the receiving operation reviews.

Start with origin

Nothing is entered yet. On a Qatar enquiry the origin is the first link, because the submittal and the customs action both sit downstream of the consignment being identifiable.

What this gate will not do

  • It supplies no grade, limit, tolerance or default — every value is the buyer's own.
  • It states no duty, tariff code, clearance outcome or submittal outcome.
  • It estimates no stock, price, lead time or availability from what is entered.

Product fit

Which ore form the Qatari requirement points to

The form decides which specification fields govern, so it belongs first in the enquiry. These are the forms a Qatari buyer is most likely to be specifying.

Adjacent options — comparable, not interchangeable

These come up in the same conversation and are frequently treated as the same decision. Each one answers a different question, and swapping one for another changes what has to be specified.

MagnetiteMagnetic separation behaviour

A mineral name, not a destination requirement. A Qatari buyer specifying a reduction route compares magnetite against hematite on how each behaves in that circuit — the ore form and the assay window still have to be stated separately.

HematiteCommon DSO and concentrate mineralogy

Frequently the mineral behind direct-shipping ore, but the name alone says nothing about grade, gangue or sizing. Choosing hematite is not the same decision as choosing a lump, a fine or a pellet.

Sinter feedFeeds an agglomeration step first

Uses the same particle-size vocabulary as a direct-reduction feed but is judged against an agglomeration route. A sizing result acceptable to a sintering line is not automatically acceptable in a reduction shaft.

Iron ore finesA size class, not a chemistry class

Fines describes how the material is sized, not what it contains or what route it suits. Two fines from different deposits can share a size band and still need entirely different limits.

Shipment documents

What has to travel with the consignment

With no covered storage at the receiving end there is no second chance to sample. The documents are the only continuous link between what was offered and what arrived, so confirm what each one covers rather than only that it exists.

Analysis records and lot documentation laid out beside a prepared iron ore sample.
Each document states what it proves and which lot it covers. Check both before relying on it.
  • Certificate of analysis, carrying its lot reference

Establishes what was determined and for which consignment. It is not transferable to another lot, so the reference matters as much as the figures.

  • The sampling standard it was produced under

Every grade, moisture and sizing figure rests on it. Ask for it explicitly, because a certificate is only meaningful inside the standard it was produced under.

  • Total iron with its determination method

Where the receiving operation screens the material, the iron figure is compared against the submittal — so the method behind it has to be on the record too.

  • Each controlled element as its own figure

Gangue constituents and deleterious elements should not arrive as a combined number, so the works can assess each against its own limit.

  • Sizing and moisture, each with its basis

The sizing record needs the method that produced it; the moisture figure needs to say whether the tonnage is weighed wet or dry.

  • Any behaviour test the route depends on

Where the process rests on how the material behaves rather than only what it contains, request that evidence and confirm its applicability to your intended circuit.

Commercial & logistics

Third country, named place, fixed responsibility

An iron ore movement into Qatar is almost always a third-country trade, so the delivery basis has to be written precisely enough that two offers can be read as delivery options rather than as bare material prices.

Incoterms® is a registered trademark of the International Chamber of Commerce. The table describes the Incoterms® 2020 rules as a planning aid, not a contract term. The term actually applied is confirmed in the contract and on the quotation.

Read the columns, not the acronym: the same term with a different named place is a different delivery obligation. Where the receiving operation screens a submittal, fixing the term early also fixes when the material has to clear that screen relative to the movement.

  • Weight basis in the contract — State whether tonnage is priced on a wet or dry basis and which figure governs at discharge. It is the most common source of a quantity dispute on a reduction feed.
  • Discharge constraints — Bulk, containerised or bagged changes the receiving works and the cost. State the form and any restriction at the berth or works before the term is fixed.
  • Documents against the shipment, not after it — The set the destination and the buyer require should be agreed before dispatch, because a document gap on a short leg is resolved on arrival, not before it.
  • Where the submittal sits in the schedule — If the material has to clear a review before release, that review is a schedule item. Naming it in the enquiry is what keeps it out of the critical path.

The discharge arrangement is a term in the contract, not a detail of the shipment.

What is not claimed here

Noor Deira Steel states no warehouse, branch, stockyard or standing buyer relationship inside Qatar. Deliveries are arranged against the consignment and the named destination; anything beyond that is verified with the commercial desk for your specific requirement rather than assumed from this page.

Buyer FAQ

Questions from the importer's side of the desk

Procurement and evidence questions a Qatari importer asks once the specification exists — not definitions, which are settled above.

What does a Qatari importer of iron ore actually need before the cargo is booked?
A named origin, a consignment reference, the assay window with the basis each figure sits on, the sizing result with its method, the document set the receiving operation will review, the exact delivery point and Incoterm, and a customs classification confirmed by the importer or their broker against the current official tariff. The classification is the only item on that list that no supplier can settle on the buyer's behalf.
We have no covered storage at the receiving end. Does that change the enquiry?
It changes the risk, not the chemistry. Where material is discharged and moved straight into a process, there is no window to re-sample, blend or re-negotiate after discharge, so the evidence has to travel with the lot. The lot reference on the certificate and the sampling standard behind it become the only link between what was sold and what arrived.
Two suppliers have quoted what looks like the same iron figure. Why are they not comparable?
Because the figure usually travels without its basis. If one states iron against a different analytical method, or quotes tonnage on a wet basis while the other quotes dry, the numbers describe different quantities and are not the same offer. The same applies to sizing: a distribution without the sieve series that produced it cannot be compared to another. Ask each supplier for the method and the basis before comparing, and the two offers will normally separate.
How does the receiving operation's submittal fit into the enquiry?
It sits between the enquiry and the order, so it is worth knowing what it will ask for before the material is offered. If the works reviews an analysis certificate, a sampling standard or a behaviour test, identify those in the enquiry and confirm the issuer they accept — chasing them after the cargo is booked is what turns a submittal into a schedule risk.
Who confirms the customs classification and the duty treatment?
The importer or their licensed customs broker, against the current official tariff for the exact goods description and origin. Classification and duty treatment depend on the precise commodity description, the origin and the rules in force at the time, and they change. This page states no tariff code, no duty rate and no clearance outcome, and no supplier can substitute for that check.

Qualified RFQ

Send the evidence, not just the tonnage

Give the origin and consignment reference, each controlled figure with the basis it sits on, and the exact Qatari delivery point with its Incoterm. The commercial desk can then respond to the requirement the receiving operation will actually assess.

The registered iron ore RFQ captures the same fields and the sampling and test documents alongside them.

Send this requirement

Attach the evidence record or state the fields directly. Nothing is pre-filled.

Price on request · No stock, price or clearance outcome is claimed · Classification is confirmed by the importer or their broker against the current official tariff.
