Steel Billet Standards
A standard is the framework an order is written against — not a complete billet specification. Use these pages to identify what each reference governs and which designation and delivery decisions the order still has to close.
No chemistry limit, mechanical property or equivalence is claimed on this page. Every value remains subject to the governing standard edition and written quotation confirmation.
State these before the order
- The controlling standard, with its edition.
- The complete grade designation within that standard.
- Dimensions, tolerances and the surface condition.
- The incoming inspection and examination plan.
- Who owns final-product release after conversion.
Registered standards
Standards we supply billet against
Each entry names what the reference governs and what it still leaves to the order. Open a standard to work through its designation and delivery decisions.
GB/T 700
China — SAMR
- What it governs
- A carbon-structural chemistry framework with the grade ordered from within the standard.
- What it leaves open
- The selected grade, the agreed edition and every billet dimension and examination.
GOST 380
Russia — Rosstandart
- What it governs
- A grade-family reference whose scope includes steel for rolled and continuously cast billets.
- What it leaves open
- The complete original designation, the edition and amendments, and the billet delivery schedule.
What a standard settles
A standard reference is not a complete billet order
Every row names the decision, the limit that applies, the evidence to request and the action that closes it before the order is released.
| Decision | Applicability and limit | Evidence to request | Closing action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Which standard governs | A project may name a standard, a grade, or both. | The controlling standard with its edition. | Quote the reference exactly as the enquiry states it. |
| Which grade within it | Most standards contain several distinct grades. | The complete designation, not a family name. | Confirm the grade with the receiving mill. |
| What the billet adds | No chemistry standard sets every billet requirement. | Dimensions, condition and an inspection plan. | Close each gap the standard leaves open. |
| What acceptance looks like | Heat evidence and finished-product tests answer different questions. | A heat-linked certificate and a separate final test plan. | Name the party responsible for each release. |
From standard to receipt
Close each decision before releasing the order
Four stages carry the order from standard selection to receipt. Each names the owner, the required input, the evidence produced and the risk if the item stays open.
| Stage and owner | Required input | Evidence or output | Risk and next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard selection — Buyer's design authority | The controlling standard and edition are named. | Approved specification and drawing revision | An unnamed edition leaves the acceptance basis open. Close the item before proceeding. |
| Grade selection — Buyer and receiving mill | The complete grade designation is agreed. | Written grade confirmation against the standard | A family name is not a grade. Close the item before proceeding. |
| Billet schedule — Mill, inspector and buyer as agreed | Dimensions, condition and examinations are added. | Approved order schedule and inspection plan | A standard alone does not set the delivery requirements. Close the item before proceeding. |
| Receipt and reconciliation — Receiving team | Heat identity is checked against the order items. | Delivery record, item count and discrepancy record | Record any mismatch before the material enters production. Close the item before proceeding. |
Enquiry handoff
Turn a standard reference into a reviewable enquiry
Name the controlling standard, its edition and the complete grade designation. Include the billet delivery requirements the standard does not set, so exceptions can be returned against the right requirement.
Price, availability, production allocation, transport feasibility and dates require written confirmation on quotation.
