Steel Billet for Small-Section Rolling

A small-section mill converts billet into angles, channels, flats and light profiles. Four constraints decide whether the supplied billet suits that route, and each one has to be closed against the mill's own pass schedule rather than assumed from the section name.

An application label does not approve a material. The drawing, the pass schedule and the service envelope govern acceptance.

State these before the order

  • The finished sections the heat will be rolled into.
  • The pass schedule and the charge geometry it needs.
  • The complete grade designation with its edition.
  • The agreed analysis basis and incoming inspection plan.
  • Who performs and holds the finished-product testing.

Rolling constraints

What a small-section route loads the billet with

Four constraints decide whether billet suits a small-section mill. Each names what to examine, the applicable limit and the action that closes it.

Pass schedule

The reduction sequence sets the section geometry the billet must reach.

Applies to every section the mill will roll from the heat.

Confirm the schedule before fixing dimensions.

Charge geometry

Section form and length must suit the furnace and the first pass.

Applies to handling and reheating, not to the finished section.

State form, dimensions, length and tolerance together.

Incoming acceptance

Surface and internal criteria are agreed before dispatch, not after.

Applies to the billet; final product testing stays separate.

Record the inspection plan and who performs it.

Grade release

The designation and its edition govern the order the mill receives.

Applies to the billet order; it does not itself approve the section.

Release the complete designation with its edition.

Responsibilities

Close each decision before the heat is charged

Four stages carry the order from the finished section back to the incoming billet. Each names the owner, the required input, the evidence produced and the risk if it stays open.

GCC destinations

Confirm the destination before dispatch

Country flags identify the destination. Quotation must still confirm the supply route, origin and availability for this order.
